You can call me Maka

I usually go by "Maka," a nickname that stuck after working somewhere with more than a dozen Michaels.

I make board games

I've been part of Quixotic Games, a game design studio, for more than a decade. We’ve got more than 25 published games including work on exciting licenses like Harry Potter, Star Trek, and most recently Marvel Strike Teams.

We recently kickstarted an expansion for our second self-published title Dungeon Alliance!

Curious readers can look at my game portfolio.

I teach a game design class

A couple of years ago, I had the opportunity to step in and teach Fundamentals of Game Design at Raritan Valley Community College. I enjoyed the work and have continued to teach.

I'll be teaching Fundamentals of Game Design at RVCC again in fall 2019.

I play a lot roleplaying games

I’ve also been part of a role-playing group that’s met almost every week for more than 15 years, playing Dungeons and Dragons, Gurps, and most recently, FATE. I’ve been the Game Master for the majority of that time, but we switch it up periodically.

Sometimes I write fiction

Sometimes I write short pieces of fiction for fun or random scenes related to our role-playing games. Some of that might wander onto the blog.

I also write code

Take a look at my Tools & Toys page.

Sometimes I need to pay bills

I’m currently waiting for the paperwork to go through for a new position I've just accepted.
